TJASKERMOLEN
(DRAINAGE MILL)

This small windmill had simple construction and was found almost exclusively in Friesland and Noord Overijssel.

It consisted of a continuous inclined shaft, an upper end which carried a set of sails, and a lower end having a closed Archimedean screw attached. The bottom of the screw was immersed in a pond.

The legs of the trestle rested on a circular ring of concrete fitted around a pond. This way the trestle could be turned around the ring while the pole in the center of the pond acted as a pivot.

These molens are not used anymore and do not even resemble a Dutch molen in its construction.
